Training program on handmade tea organised

Guwahati: A two-day training and orientation program on handmade tea was organized by biodiversity conservation group Aaranyak, where sixteen Karbi women from villages under Kohora river basin and Diffloo river basin of Karbi Anglong district participated. The specialized program held on 20-21 April covered some important components and steps of processing the tea including quality control withering, hand rolling process, oxidation, drying and storage.
Renowned tea expert Rajkumar Gohain Baruah conducted the training program where the participants learned the scientific process, starting from harvesting tea leaves and processing methods involved. Emphasize was given on making two types of hand-processed tea namely Green tea and Orthodox tea.
Earlier, a Karbi ethnic haat named Pirbi was opened at Kohora area of world famous Kaziranga National Park in eastern Assam. It has emerged as a new destination for those who are interested in diverse ethnic and organic products including a variety of handmade tea which is produced by Karbi people with typical characteristics.
