Sonowal inaugurates G20 SFWG’s first day meeting

Guwahati: The first day’s program of G20 sustainable finance working group meeting (SFWG), which was inaugurated by Union ports, shipping & waterways and Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday, concluded successfully. Welcoming the delegates from different countries, Sonowal commented that the culture, heritage and the spirit of nature conservation in Guwahati reflect the pro-planet and people centric approach of India.

Explaining the role of traditional medicine, Sonowal said that the aim is to channel India’s ancient wisdom and traditional knowledge, and capitalize on it to pave the way for a sustainable future for the human race. Larry McDonald, USA co-chair of SFWG, appreciated the minister by stating that the combination of responsibilities like promoting green & sustainable shipping system and promoting health & well being is relevant to the SFWG activities.

Mentionable is that the meeting was attended by 95 delegates from G20 member countries, 10 invitee countries and 14 international organisations. Many international organisations also joined the meeting virtually. The G20 SFWG aims to mobilise sustainable finance to help ensure global growth & stability and promote the transition towards greener, more resilient, and inclusive societies & economies. The Guwahati meeting is going to discuss how to mobilise finance for tackling climate change, fund newly developed low carbon technologies, identify instruments to finance sustainable development goals, etc.

PM to address Krishnaguru program: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Krishnaguru Eknaam Akhanda Kirtan, a month-long program being held from 6 January, for World Peace on 3 February. Organised at Krishnaguru Sevashram in Barpeta of western Assam, the gathering of thousands of devotees will be addressed by PM Modi through video conferencing.
