Guwahati: Assam flood situation gradually improves on Tuesday as the number of affected people reduces to 3,32,639 , but death tolls rise to 75 on 29 July 2026. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority information 622 villages in seven districts namely Charaideo, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup (metropolitan) remain under water. The latest wave of flood also inundated over 35,000 hectares of crop land across Assam and washed away more than 25,000 domestic animals and a huge number of poultry birds.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reviewed the flood situation with the lawmakers from Assam including Union ports, shipping and waterways minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Bharatiya Janata Party president Dilip Saikia in New Delhi. “The Centre is working closely with the Assam government in assisting those affected. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being,” said PM Modi after the meeting. A few days back, he dialed State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and assured all possible support for the flood-hit people of Assam.
CM Sarma in Guwahati announced a series of relief measures for the flood affected families including an additional financial assistance for those who lost their loved ones. Now the families of the deceased will receive an additional rupees of five lakh in addition to the former package of Rs four lakh ex-gratia. Moreover, the families of missing individuals (for more than 30 days) due to flood related incidents will also be provided Rs four lakh ex-gratia assistance. Over one lakh flood-hit families will urgently receive Rs 15,000 each to meet necessary requirements and the Orunodoi scheme beneficiaries from the affected localities will be offered Rs 2,500 next. The students will also be paid one-time monetary assistance, added Sarma.
